Astronomy Club After a few years to regroup, we are having Georgia Sky View 2015 at the beautiful The Rock Ranch, The Rock, Ga. 30285. The new venue gives us darker skies, nicer amenities, and thanks to the generosity of the staff of The Rock Ranch, lower cost. The Rock Ranch is a 1200 acre working ranch 7 miles west of Barnesville, Ga. On Hwy 36. The ranch is property purchased by the late Truett Cathy founder of Chick-Filet for the establishment of 2 foster homes which are still in operation. Our dark sky site is approximately 1 mile from the paved roads. It is the camping site of the The Rock Ranch. This year they are allowing us to tent camp at no charge. The covered wagons can be rented for the normal cost, and can accommodate up to 8 people. Our meeting site is Truett’s Barn, which is a barn in name only, as it houses lots of antique tractors. It has first class meeting facilities, heated restrooms and great front and side porches with an outside fireplace. We have a great selection of speakers for Saturday morning and afternoon. We will also have our Star-B-Q at the meeting room at 5pm Saturday. The Star-B-Q is included in the cost of registration. It will be pulled pork, cowboy beans, homemade potato chips, cole slaw and banana pudding. Food will be for sale at venues from 10am to 4pm.
