Georgia Sky View 2009

On Thursday, June 24th, at 7 o'clock p.m.
the Flint River Astronomy Club will conduct a

Public Lunar Observing at UGa-Griffin.

The Public Observing will the the first in a series of monthly lunar observings at the school.  We'll show visitors lunar features such as:  the terminator; craters; mountains and mountain ranges; oceans and "seas" (maria); and the site where the Apollo 11 Eagle landed in July, 1969, and man first set foot on the Moon.  We'll also show whatever planets are up -- in June it will be Venus, Mars and Saturn -- and maybe some deep-sky objects.

The observing site will be the parking lot by the Stuckey Bldg. where we conduct our meetings.  We'll set up our binoculars and telescopes on the lawn in front of the parking area.  The observing will begin at 7 p.m.

I hope that you'll plan to attend, whether to show our visitors the Moon, up close and personal; to learn more about the Moon and the many features that make it such a fascinating place; to begin working on your Lunar Club certificate and pin; or simply to enjoy the fellowship of your friends in FRAC.

The Georgia SkyView 2010 was one for the record books. I do believe that
everyone that attended had a good time. I had a lot of people come up and tell
me that they had a good time and no one came and complained. So from that, I
have to conclude that the event went over pretty well. From the view of the
person being responsible for the event, everything went smooth as silk. I could
not have asked for anything better.  (click here to read more.....)
